Mental Health

We provide a therapeutic milieu that uses a traditional cognitive behavioral approach to treatment in the adult psychiatric unit at Atlantic Shores Hospital. The cognitive behavioral approach is used because of the diverse population that we serve on this program.

Atlantic Shores Hospital’s adult psychiatric program is designed to meet the unique needs of individuals 18 years and older who are experiencing severe mental health problems. The overall goal of the program is to achieve a level of reintegration or stabilization as rapidly as possible. The inpatient program is structured to promote the maximum cognitive, social, psychical, behavioral, and emotional development in each patient while providing an atmosphere of respect and compassion for each individual.

Each patient is evaluated and treated by a multidisciplinary treatment team on our staff. All therapies concentrate on specific strengths and weaknesses of each patient, and are designed to promote feelings of increased self-worth and self- control.

The acute psychiatric program provides our patients with medical and psychiatric stabilization and 24 hour nursing care for patients experiencing critical symptoms, which may include:

  • Anxiety
  • Panic Attacks
  • Depression
  • Extreme anger and/or dangerous behavior
  • Hallucinations/delusional thinking
  • Medication Stabilization
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Schizophrenia
  • Severe Mood Swings
  • Suicidal feelings and self harming behaviors
